The 10th in a Nutshell

“Another not unimportant consideration is that the powers of the general government will be, and indeed must be, principally employed upon external objects, such as war, peace, negotiations with foreign powers and foreign commerce. In its internal operations it can touch but few objects, except to introduce regulations beneficial to the commerce, intercourse and other relations, between the states, and to lay taxes for the common good. The powers of the states, on the other hand, extend to all objects, which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, and liberties, and property of the people, and the internal order, improvement and prosperity of the state.”
Joseph Story, associate justice, SCOTUS, Commentaries on the Constitution, 1833.

“None of your business”

I was watching the late news as I lay in bed waiting for David Letterman to start, and caught a snip about Little Hillary’s recent visit to colleges here in Indiana. During one such session, a voter in the crowd had the audacity to ask the younger Clinton about how her mother handled the “Sex Scandal”, to which Little Hillary replied curtly, “none of your business”. While a part of me applauds her defense of her parents privacy, I have to disagree with her on this. Here’s why.
Mrs. Clinton is running for the job of President of the United States of America, which carries with it all the weight and responsibility of leading this country, and her peoples into the future. She is asking that we trust her with our lives, and the lives of those we love. She is asking that we trust our children’s future to her, and her “experience” as the First Lady in the 1990′s. This job is a stress filled pressure cooker, and we THE PEOPLE of this country have a right to vet Mrs. Clinton on how well she handles crisis, both personal and in public service.
Most women can imagine how they would feel if they found out their spouse was cheating, and sympathized with Mrs. Clinton when her huband’s messing around became public. Many will even admit that they would be crushed by something such as that, so how Mrs. Clinton handled the “Sex Scandal”, as a wife, mother and public official, and how her daughter perceived her mother’s handling of it, says alot about what type of “leader” Mrs. Clinton would be as President.
Mrs. Clinton is not auditioning for a part in a Hollywood production, she is applying for the job as Leader of the Free World. Knowing how she reacts in situations of extreme stress is not only important, it’s imperative to the health of this country.

“I like how the trees look like pencil sketches.” I say as we drive down the country road heading home after a night at Church’s place.
“They remind me of arteries. Trees are the life blood of the earth, just as our blood vessels are our life blood.”
“Neat” I say.
We ride the rest of the way home without words.
This is one of those “good times”.

I know I have been away for an eternity in web time, but real life has a way of mussing up your personal agenda and what not… but, here I am, taking time to post a little something.
I have been keeping up with the world, mostly via Helen Philpot of Margaret and Helen, who I think should have their own talk show… and through other various news sites and blogs… I chuckle more reading Helen though.
So, what have I been up to while I’ve been away? Let’s see… I joined a fitness club, and spend every day after work walking off my frustrations, have watched countless movies and television series, bought a new dining room table, and put in more hours at the office than is prudent.
Which, brings us up to today. At the moment I am reading the most recent post from Helen, listening to the remix of “Glenn Beck Freaks out” (via Jason Linkins), and the newest offering regarding Goldman Sachs (or should we say Goldman SUCKS!) from my favorite post-HunterThompson reporter Matt Taibbi.
I finally relented to the pressure and signed up for Twitter… but, only so I could keep up with the wonderful, and Emmy nominated Rainn Wilson. His comments give me a good belly laugh each morning.
And now you are up to date on me… aren’t you so happy?
